Ilias Marmaras

Ilias Marmaras is born in 1960 in Athens. After urbanism and fine arts studies at the Vincennes University in Paris, he contributed in many film productions in parallel with his artistic work.

For this first solo show in Athens, Ilias Marmaras emphisizes the perception of a work of art and what is defining it. For this purpose he chose painting, and specially the autoportrait as a reference to the moment of appreciation of an artwork. His standardized portraits, through repetition, transform the whole of the works into an installation who is spread to the public as much as the private space of the gallery, allowing the two spaces to confirm their active participation in the exhibition.
